Optimizing aesthetic results

The aesthetic outcome of any surgical procedure - the way you look after you have recovered from your surgery - is very important to many patients. You should discuss your expectations and desired results with your surgeon before your operation.

Using LifeCell Tissue Matrices can help your surgeon to overcome many of the aesthetic challenges associated with breast reconstruction.
LifeCell Tissue Matrices:
  • Provide an additional layer of tissue that may help hide implant visibility
  • Provide additional tissue creating a hammock that allows for a natural looking breast
  • Help control the location of the implant and to define the breast fold

Minimizing the risk of some complications

Using LifeCell Tissue Matrices can help your surgeon reduce or avoid the risk of some complications associated with breast reconstruction.

LifeCell Tissue Matrices
  • Offer an additional layer of tissue that may help mask feeling the implant through the skin
  • Act as an “internal bra” which reinforces the skin flap, reducing the pressure which can help prevent the skin from thinning out over time
  • Support the implant which may help prevent bottoming out (downward movement of the implant) or extrusion of the implant through the skin
  • Anchors your chest muscle (pectoralis muscle) which may help to keep it from retracting

Overcoming other issues
  • Tissue expansion issues: In most cases, your surgeon may need to use a tissue expander in order to prepare for placing an implant in the breast. Multiple expansion sessions are often needed for some patients, depending on the condition of the skin and chest wall tissues. Using LifeCell Tissue Matrices may reduce the total number of expansion sessions necessary allowing you to get back to your life sooner.
  • Single-stage reconstruction issues: Many patients and surgeons prefer to complete the breast reconstruction in a single surgery. However, this is not always possible if your skin and chest wall tissues are too flat or tight to accommodate an implant right away. By supplementing the amount of tissue available, LifeCell Tissue Matrices may help your surgeon to perform your breast reconstruction as a single-stage procedure. This may allow you to get back to your family, work, friends…in short, back to your life sooner.

Every patient is different and results may vary. Only a physician can determine the best treatment for you. Please ask your doctor to explain the benefits and risks to see if LifeCell products are right for you.
