Using AlloDerm® or Strattice™ Tissue Matrices
Why use LifeCell Tissue Matrices?
Breast plastic surgery (BPS)
Use of your own tissue from other areas of your body (autologous reconstruction)

While these methods have the advantage of using your own tissue, helping to create a more natural-looking repair, there may not be enough of your own tissue available for you to be a suitable candidate. Other factors may make you an unsuitable candidate for autologous reconstruction. Your surgeon can advise you on your option.

Autologous methods require a second surgical incision at the site where tissue is removed which increases risk for decreased functionality at that site. For example, latissimus dorsi patients sometimes have difficulty with overhand rotational movement of their arms. In addition, Transverse Rectus Abdominis Musculocutaneous (TRAM) reconstruction patients run the risk of abdominal wall weakness (risk of bulging) or loss of functionality. AlloDerm® Regenerative Tissue Matrix and Strattice™ Tissue Matrix can be used to reinforce a TRAM donor site to help minimize risk associated with the TRAM procedure.

Every patient is different and results may vary. Only a physician can determine the best treatment for you. Please ask your doctor to explain the benefits and risks to see if LifeCell products are right for you.
